Now we have two second-hand accounts, and a first-hand account, plus the newspaper article with photograph. It really did happen.
The original report I Emailed to everyone Thursday morning and his brother was sketchy, and some were commenting that it could not of happened because the English-speaking media did not pick up on it.
As a community, we need to share information better and quicker. This will assist friends and family who may be traveling into, or trying to escape from an area that is dangerous. Use your cellular phone, your computer, your radio; knock on your neighbor's door, if that is what it takes. Get the word out.
Always share your travel itinerary with someone whose intelligence you trust, and do not travel alone if at all possible.
Read the newspaper account of this incident. If you don't read Spanish, get help to accomplish that; this is Mexico.
There were at least four passers-by in the immediate vicinity of the attack who suffered minor injuries and/or whose vehicles were damaged by gunfire.
Three people from San Antonio del Mar, that I know of, were caught in the traffic tie-up.
God bless the good TJ cops who are fighting the gatilleros.
Criminals seem to have plenty of ammunition and hardware (Gee, I thought guns were illegal in Mexico).

attempting to obtain further details of this event. I was
fortunate that a neighbor sent me a copy of an article that
appeared in "El Mexicano" newspaper. Like you, it takes me
time to run this stuff down; apparently, some people don't
choose to pass this kind of information along if it doesn't
fit into a specifc personal agenda or schedule. Thank

"Acribillan a subjefe policíaco de Tijuana

TIJUANA.Arturo Rivas Vaca, subdirector de Policía y
Tránsito Municipal, fue acribillado a tiros y su escolta
resultó gravemente herido, por tres gatilleros que lograron
escapar, y que en el tiroteo también lesionaron a un
automovilista. El atentado ocurrió al filo de las 8:00
horas, cerca de la entrada al fraccionamiento El Mirador,
delegación Playas de Tijuana.
El jefe policiaco alcanzó a repeler la agresión pero al
parecer falló todos sus disparos. Aunque fue penetrado por
varios proyectiles, quedó cons-ciente y trasladado al
cercano hospital de El Mirador, donde expiró poco después.
Su escolta, Jorge Eduardo Ledezma Magallón, tiene una bala
alojada en la nuca y el reporte sobre su
estado de salud indica que está muy grave.
En semejantes condiciones está el ingeniero Luis Francisco
de Santiago Ferrer, con un proyectil que penetró por la
ingle derecha pero se desvió hacia la caja torácica.
Los sicarios llevaban uniformes negros y utilizaron rifles
de asalto conocidos como “cuernos de chivo”, a juzgar por
más de 160 cartuchos percutidos y un cargador que estaban
diseminados a lo largo de casi veinte metros.
Tres gatilleros
A la hora mencionada Rivas Vaca y Ledezma Magallón
circulaban por la carretera escénica en dirección al centro
de la ciudad, en la pick up patrulla 3664, conducida por el
escolta.
Unos cincuenta metros delante de la salida de El Mirador se
les colocó por delante una Ford F-150 modelo 2000, blanca,
con un hombre en la caja trasera, el cual empezó a
dispararles.
Al percatarse que los proyectiles atravesaban el parabrisas
y se incrustaban por los costados de la patrulla, Ledezma
tuvo que detenerse para tratar de ponerse a salvo. Sin
embargo, su cuerpo recibió varios proyectiles, el de mayor
gravedad en la nuca.
Rivas Vaca corrió hacia la parte trasera, buscado
protección en la caja de la unidad.
Entonces bajaron del vehículo agresor dos individuos con
sendos “cuernos de chivo”, disparándole mientras lo
perseguían, hasta que lo lastimaron y cayó al pavimento,
herido de muerte.
Seguros de que lo habían asesinado, volvieron a la pick up
blanca y huyeron por el libramiento Rosas Magallón, hacia
San Antonio de los Buenos.
Cerca de la gasolinera “Rocafuerte” dejaron la camioneta y
abordaron un sedán Chevrolet Malibu 2005, dorado, sin
placas, que posteriormente abandonaron en el Cañón
Palmeras. Ahí se les perdió la pista.
En la pick up blanca los gatilleros abandonaron 26
cartuchos útiles calibre .223, y en el asiento posterior
del Malibu, un cargador lleno así como un proyectil suelto.
Estos vehículos fueron localizados en el operativo que de
inmediato puso en marcha la policía municipal, que incluyó
el Plan Alfa, consistente en cerrar las salidas de la
ciudad. Empero, los agresores escaparon.
Pavor de automovilistas
El tiroteo hizo que decenas de automovilistas que
circulaban en las cercanías al punto del atentado vivieran
momentos de pavor ante el temor de que los proyectiles los
alcanzaran a ellos o a sus acompañantes, en muchos casos
menores de edad.
Tal fue el caso del ingeniero Luis Francisco de Santiago
Ferrer, Aurora Villalba Blanco, Karla Camacho Ixta, Daniela
Soto Flores y Martha Elena Aguirre, cuyos vehículos
sufrieron varios impactos, aunque solamente el primero
resultó lesionado.
Conducía un Volkswagen Pointer 1995, verde, que encajó dos
plomazos en el vidrio trasero, veinte en el costado
izquierdo y dos en el parabrisas.
La Ford Explorer que manejaba Karla Camacho tiene tres
orificios de bala hacia el lado derecho: uno en el
parabrisas y dos en la carrocería.
Las cuatro mujeres consideraban un “verdadero milagro” que
no salieran heridas pero, al igual que el resto de los
testigos, estaban llenas de pánico y casi en estado de
“skock” nervioso.
Además, el incidente obligó al cierre del tráfico vehicular
por la carretera escénica, la avenida Internacional y en
general todos los accesos al fraccionamiento Playas de
Tijuana y a la autopista Tijuana-Ensenada.
La circulación volvió a la normalidad casi tres horas y

His escort, Jorge Eduardo Ledezma Magallón, has a bullet lodged in the nape of the neck and the report on his state of health indicates that it is very serious.
